Frequently Asked Questions
What should we wear?
Comfortable clothing which takes sweat away from the body. You will need to be prepared for wide temperature changes and wet weather - so a range of clothes will have to be carried.
There is also some compulsory gear that you will need to carry - see below for more details.
Is there compulsory gear to carry?
YES Click here for the list.
Do we sleep during the event?
If you want- but there is a 48 hour time limit on getting to the finish line so don't sleep for too long! Only sleep at checkpoints so we know where you are.
What are Check Points?
Check Points are booths at intervals around the course where event marshals will record you progress and you will be able to meet your support crew.
What facilities are at the Check Points?
Fluids (water/sports drinks) and basic foods (fruit/snacks etc) will be provided - however your support crew should carry most of your nutrition needs.
Must I have a support crew?
Yes. To participate in an event of this duration you will probably need more food and gear than you can easily carry with you. Your support crew can meet you at the Check Points with whatever you need. Crewing is great fun and also a great way for interested people to get an idea of the event for future participation.
Does my team have to stick together over the entire length of the trail?
Yes. It is compulsory for the whole team to arrive together at each Check Point and cross the finish line together.
Is there an individual category in WildEndurance?
No. WildEndurance is a team only challenge. Preparing and competing as part of a team is all part of the special experience of WildEndurance.
Does WildEndurance have an age limit?
All participants must be at least 18 years of age on the first day of the event - May 3rd 2008. There is no upper age limit but you will need to be in good shape to complete the course!
Will my mobile phone work on the course?
Some parts of the course have no phone access and teams are required to carry two mobiles on different networks, to maximise coverage.
How do I enter WildEndurance 2008?

I want to volunteer?
Contact Sean, the organiser.
How much does it cost to Register?
Each participant must also then raise at least $350 in tax deductible in sponsorship payable to The Wilderness Fund before the event.
How can my sponsors make a donation?
There is a sponsorship page here on the website. This is the easiest way for your sponsors to make their donation. They will receive a tax deductible receipt after they have donated
Must I meet the minimum fundraising pledge?
Yes. Failure to meet the target will affect your eligibility to enter WildEndurance in future. We will be putting lots of fund raising tips up on this website soon to help you.
How does my sponsorship donation help?
Each competitor will raise funds for The Wilderness Society (TWS) - a not for profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of our wilderness and wildlife under a WildCountry vision for Australia.
TWS was established in 1976 to help save the Franklin River and has since played an important role in many of Australia's great conservation campaigns.
Can I pull out before the event?
Yes - by emailing the organiser: sean.greenhill@wilderness.org.au.
Your Registration Fee will be refunded (less a $50 administration fee). No refund will be made if you withdraw less than 30 days before the event.
Donated sponsorship funds are non refundable.
What is the course like?
The course has a number of long steep climbs but the tracks are generally wide and provide a good footing. You will be walking through some of the most spectacular wilderness areas in Australia.
Am I fit enough to do WildEndurance?
As long as you allow yourself enough time to prepare properly beforehand, definitely. Long walks/runs over hilly ground (6 hours or longer) should be a staple part of your training program before the event. We will post some training ideas up on this website soon.
Can our support team walk with us for part of the trail?
No. We have to limit the numbers on the actual course so only registered participants can use the trails during the event. |
